  1. In November 1966, I first hunted on the farm. Nancy and I had bought the farm, but we hadn't yet moved in. Although Earl and Bertha Dawson still lived in the farmhouse, we had purchased the property on August 1, 1966, and were remodeling our "new" home while we still lived in Girard on Myrtle Street.

I invited my brother-in-law Jack Moodie to hunt whitetail with me during rifle season that fall. I hunted with the government 30.06. We walked along the tractor path, past the cherry tree at the top of the knoll, past the chestnut grove, peach trees, and grape vineyard to the woods.

I shot a doe that season. Jack wasn't so lucky. That season was the beginning of many years of pleasurable hunting with friends and family.
